Chronic Disease & Complex Cases

Collective Health Center serves those who are frustrated with not getting the time or help they needed to feel better and those looking to address the underlying root cause(s) of their health concerns. Our focus is on health restoration, not just treating symptoms. We take time to listen to the whole story, answer questions and educate. Dr. Sarah, as a medically-trained naturopathic doctor, seamlessly combines time honored therapies from naturopathic and East Asian Medicine with modern, conventional approaches. For patients labeled with chronic disease or complex cases we are often the last resort with the best results.

How do you support people with chronic disease and complex cases at Collective Health Center?

When it comes to working with patients who have already been diagnosed with something there are so many factors to weigh in and approaches to take. My approach to patients as their Naturopathic Doctor is a holistic one – one where I look at the person’s entire body rather than just their symptoms. When looking at a patient through a holistic lens, I am able to support them regardless of what disease or condition they might have and give them the tools they need to help support their overall health long after our time together.

Two categories that I work with clients on are chronic diseases and complex cases and sometimes these go hand in hand. Let’s break down what exactly these are and how working with me as your Naturopathic Doctor can help you look, feel, and live healthier!

CHRONIC DISEASES

You may have heard the term “chronic” when preceded by a medical disease or ailment, but what exactly makes something a “chronic” disease? A chronic condition is a health condition or disease that is persistent and long lasting – lasting for at least three months or more.

As is standard for my practice, I take a holistic approach to chronic diseases. Instead of looking at the individual symptoms, I look at my patient’s body as a whole to help it heal from the inside out. There are so many different factors that contribute to chronic diseases, working toward healing just the one symptom that a patient is experiencing could cause further chronic ailment due to the core factor not being addressed.

COMPLEX CASES

In addition to chronic diseases, there are also patients who have what we in the medical field call “Complex Cases”. A complex case is defined as an individual who has two or more diagnoses and/or have multiple social determinants of health. Social determinants of health are factors such as where a person lives, learns, works, etc. that contribute to their quality of life and it’s outcomes based around our health. Complex cases are the mainstay of my practice – I absolutely enjoy working with those individuals. In fact, many of my primary care and physician specialist colleagues refer to me for supportive and restorative naturopathic care specifically for complex cases.

MY APPROACH

Similar to my approach with autoimmune diseases, I take a whole health approach with my patients and provide recommendations to support and optimize health both during and well after our time together. Everything from creating a nutritional plan to practices such as acupuncture, there are so many wonderful and natural approaches to chronic diseases and complex cases
