How It Works

SAAT is based on auricular acupuncture, a method that uses the ear’s connection to the brain and autonomic nervous system. By placing a tiny needle at a precise location, the body’s immune response to a specific allergen can be desensitized—often with just one treatment per allergen.

What to Expect

Your first SAAT visit is designed to be thorough, personalized, and—when appropriate—treatment-ready. Here's what it typically includes:

  • A comprehensive intake to review your allergy history, sensitivities, and overall health picture

  • Muscle testing (Bi-Digital O-Ring Testing) to identify allergens and assess for conditions like Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS), Alpha-Gal syndrome, and histamine intolerance, which may influence your treatment plan

  • Metal and adhesive sensitivity screening to ensure safe needle placement. If sensitivity is detected, we’ll begin with a gentle homeopathic-style desensitization spray to prepare your system. In these cases, needle placement will be scheduled for a follow-up visit once your body is ready

  • Placement of one or more tiny Spinex needles in the ear (if no metal sensitivity is present), targeting specific allergens

  • Instructions for care while the needle remains in place—typically 3–4 weeks, during which your body continues to recalibrate its response

  • Follow-up visits may be scheduled depending on the number of allergens being addressed or if additional support is needed

How long do the needles stay in?

Typically 3–4 weeks. They are tiny and painless, and most patients forget they’re even there.

Does it hurt?

Most patients feel little to no discomfort. The needle is very small, and insertion may cause a brief pinch or mild sensation. The process is generally well tolerated and quick.

Can I treat multiple allergies at once?

Yes, though each allergen requires its own point and needle. We’ll prioritize based on your symptoms and goals.

Do I need allergy testing beforehand?

Recent allergy testing is not required, but it can be helpful—especially if you already have a sense of which allergens may be affecting you. If you haven’t done prior testing, we’ll use muscle testing during your visit to identify sensitivities. To keep the process efficient and allow time for treatment, we typically focus on the most common food and environmental allergens. If you suspect something specific, let us know in advance so we can prioritize it during your session.

What is the testing procedure?

The success of SAAT depends on accurately identifying the substances that are triggering your symptoms. If you’ve already completed allergy testing elsewhere, please bring a printed copy of your results to your appointment. We also recognize that the Elimination Diet remains the gold standard for identifying food sensitivities, and we’re happy to integrate that information into your care.

If you haven’t yet identified your allergens, we offer in-house testing using Bi-Digital O-Ring Testing—a specialized form of muscle testing—alongside energetically imprinted test vials—commonly referred to as filters. This technique allows us to assess energetic sensitivities to specific substances, including foods, environmental triggers, chemicals, and medications.

If you suspect a sensitivity to something not listed, please let us know in advance so we can source the appropriate filter before your visit.

Can SAAT help with Alpha-Gal or MCAS?

Yes! SAAT is one of the few treatments that has shown success with these complex conditions.

What if my symptoms don’t improve after SAAT?

We’ll reassess together. Sometimes residual symptoms mean there are additional allergens or triggers that haven’t yet been identified, or that cross-reactive sensitivities are present. With MCAS or immune over-reactivity, treating some allergens first can reduce the overall “immune burden,” which often improves how responsive the body is to further treatment. If after your SAAT session you still have symptoms, we’ll retest, explore additional allergies or sensitivities, and adjust your plan accordingly.

Is SAAT covered by insurance?

Currently, SAAT is not covered by insurance. However, most patients require only a few treatments for lasting relief.
